It’s been a year since our last report… and what a year. We have plenty of reasons to celebrate! These past months have been full of activity as we move closer towards a greener synthesis of pharmaceuticals. We’ve exceeded our expectations by successfully synthesising five different APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients—the functional compounds in a drug), replacing all solvent-based steps with mechanochemical methods. We’re now exploring ways to protect the results we’ve worked so long to achieve, so you’ll have to wait a little longer to hear all the details.
Thanks to these promising preliminary results, we began scaling-up and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) activities earlier than planned. In terms of scaling up, we successfully tested three benchmark reactions, using both batch and continuous processes. In other words, three representative pharmaceutical materials were successfully produced at a larger scale.
