All good things sadly come to an end. Our IMPACTIVE project is officially ending this month, and last week we celebrated its final general assembly. Our team gathered at the heart of Montpellier, France, at the wonderful Hôtel Saint-Côme. We can just but to thank our management and coordination team at the University of Montpellier for hosting us and making this final meeting possible.
It was a busy two days of intense discussions, as we presented the results achieved so far before making the final efforts of this fantastic scientific journey. After all, we had to condense four years of hard work into just a couple of days. Four years during which we have achieved some great results. The seven patents we expect to publish are evidence of this.
The foundation of IMPACTIVE was to provide alternative, safer and more sustainable routes to molecules that are already on the market through mechanochemistry. We have not simply removed the solvents from established synthetic routes. We’ve developed new mechanochemical processes. To give just one example, we mechanochemically synthesised a novel cocrystal form of the anticancer drug lenalidomide. We say goodbye with the feeling that we have put the finishing touches to a job well done. Above all, we have opened up new ways of thinking about how to make pharmaceutical manufacturing greener through mechanochemistry.
