We are proud to be featured in the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) 2025 Annual Report. COST is a funding organisation that supports research and innovation networks, known as COST Actions. IMPACTIVE is an initiative that emerged from the COST Action CA18112 ‘Mechanochemistry for Sustainable Industry’ (MechSustInd).
MechSustInd was featured as a new success story on this annual report. It built a whole European network (and beyond!) around mechanochemistry, while generating significant scientific results. “By rethinking how chemicals are produced, the Action helped place mechanochemistry at the centre of Europe’s transition to greener manufacturing”, the report says.
When the Action began, many companies regarded mechanochemistry as “strange or irrelevant” for use in organic synthesis. Through sustained communication, workshops and collaboration, this perception has shifted dramatically. Today, mechanochemistry is widely recognised as a sustainable alternative to chemical synthesis.
