We are pleased to announce our tenth and, sadly, final webinar session. It will take place on Wednesday, 23 September at 16:00 CEST on YouTube Live. In this occasion we welcome our former researcher Maria Carta, from Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. During this webinar, she will explore a common situation for everyone involved in mechanochemistry: you optimise a mechanochemical reaction in your own ball mill and when a colleague repeats it in theirs (with the same reagents, and the same milling time) … they get a different result! Obviously, something changed between the two jars. In this webinar, Maria Carta will talk about how jar geometry and milling conditions affect the dynamics of vibratory ball mills, and how this information can be used to compare the performance of different devices.
The webinar will also introduce one of the results of IMPACTIVE: a simulation tool available to any researcher interested in running their own simulations. The tool is called Athanor (Analysis of ball Trajectories in HArmoNically Oscillated Reactors) and will help researcherscompare different milling devices and assess the transferability of mechanochemical processes across their experimental setups.
Our speaker is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Ruhr University Bochum, supported by an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship. Her research focuses on mechanochemistry, with the aim of deepening the understanding of the physical and chemical mechanisms governing mechanochemical transformations. She combines experimental and theoretical approaches to establish relationships between processing conditions and reaction kinetics. Within the IMPACTIVE project, she has worked on the development of kinetic models and the investigation of ball-milling dynamics.
